29 Dec 04National support helps Poole fight for funding
Poole’s campaign for more Government funding received a welcome boost following national support received last week.
In response to letters from Brian Leverett, the Leader of the Council, the Local Government Association (LGA), a national organisation that represents the views of Councils has backed the town’s plea to meet Ministers and discuss Poole’s funding settlement.
Brian said: “As one of only four Councils in the country to receive no increase in its Government funding apart from for our schools, this means that any increase in the cost of running important every day services such as refuse collection will have to come from Council Tax payers. We need to meet with Ministers urgently to discuss this situation and support from other organisations such as LGA is vital to help us make Ministers realise the impact this will have on the town and the services we provide.
