27 Oct 03Congratulations to Poole from Government
David Miliband MP, Minister for Schools, has congratulated Poole Local Education Authority (LEA) on 'its excellent Key Stage 2 and 3 results this year'.
Putting Poole amongst the most improved LEAs this year, Mr Miliband asked for his congratulations to be passed on to all teachers, pupils and staff at the LEA in Poole.
Councillor Tony Woodcock, Cabinet Portfolio Holder for Learning, said: "It is excellent to see that the Government has recognised the truly hard work that our pupils and teaching staff put in to achieve such improvements and great results, my congratulations go to them all. The battle however is still on to impress on the Government that without fair funding we can no longer improve or maintain such high standards in our schools. Poole LEA needs more money from Government to survive and we will continue to fight for a fair deal for our schools."
Earlier this year, figures from the Department for Education and Skills (DfES) figures showed that Poole LEA is the most improved authority at the national Key Stage 2 tests for pupils aged 11 years. Poole is also shown as the fifth highest LEA in the country at Key Stage 3 for pupils aged 14 years.
John Nash, Policy Director for Education in Poole, said: "We are delighted with this information which shows that Poole schools are among the best in the country. Our improvement in performance at Key Stage 2 is particularly good news as this is an area that has been challenging both locally and nationally. Congratulations to all of the pupils, teachers and staff who have worked so hard to achieve these results."
Traditionally, Poole also does very well in GCSE and A level examinations and was rated sixth highest in the country at GCSE last year.
