27 Feb 07Poetry at Hamworthy Library
All are welcome at Hamworthy Library at 11.30 am on Wednesday 7th March when Dorset poet, Louisa Parker is reading from her collection, Salt-sweat & Tears, published in February. Louisa is a writer of British-Ghanaian heritage living in West Dorset. Her poetry reflects her experience of being a mixed race woman in the West Country and explores the themes of culture, home and belonging as well as family relationships.
Of her work the poet and critic, Selima Hill has written:
“The poems bounce off the page like diamonds – hard, bright and lethal. Louisa Adjoa Parker writes like a fire blazes…- I envy her! …brutal and cool; sparks fly. Her world explodes in your face. She insists you listen. Her language is spot-on. She writes like a dream, but a dream that will not let you go, that’s ruthless and painful and crystal clear: … She shares her pain with a lightness of touch that makes it all the more heart-breaking.”
