Section 30 Dispersal Notice in Canford Heath

Poole Police and the Borough of Poole have today authorised a Section 30 Dispersal Notice under the Anti-Social Behaviour Act 2003 to prevent groups of two or more youths from gathering in Canford Heath area and causing problems, with immediate effect.

The Notice is effective for three months but will be reviewed regularly and covers the area of:

Canford Heath Road east from the subway of Longfleet Drive to the roundabout junction with Adastral Road, north along Culliford Crescent to its junction with Canford Heath Road. Then north east to the roundabout junction with Dorset Way and Canford Way, then south along Dorset Way to its junction with Mannings Heath Road, then south along Mannings Heath Road to its junction with Ringwood Road, south on Ringwood Road to its junction with Old Wareham Road, then to its junction with Dorset Way to the footbridge at Trigon Road / Harvel Road, then north along Harvel Road / Darbys Lane North and Longfleet Drive to its junction at the subway at Canford Heath Road.

The move has been taken following reports from young people about being initimidated and harassed by groups of other people in the locality. It is thought many of the people gathering in the area have come from other areas including Bournemouth and Upton.

Superintendent Darren Curtis, Poole Police, said: “Large groups of people have been gathering in the area looking for trouble and causing fear and alarm to other young people. There are reports similar activities could take place this weekend and it is with that in mind we have gone down the route of authorising a Section 30 Dispersal Notice for the area. This gives powers to Police to instruct groups of two or more people that officers consider to be causing a problem, to disperse, leave the locality and not return for a period of 24 hours or face arrest.”

John McBride, Chief Executive, Borough of Poole, said: “We are happy to support the police by signing this order to help make Canford Heath a safer place for all.”
