29 Apr 04New Home Improvement Agency for Poole
The Borough of Poole’s Housing and Community Service has been successful in bidding for £30,000 of Government funding to help deliver its successful Private Sector Housing Assistance and Supporting People Programmes.
The bid, negotiated by the Borough of Poole’s Private Sector Housing Manager Trevor George and Supported People Programme Manager Hayley Seymour, will be used to support vulnerable clients by improving homes and housing services in Poole.
It means the council’s current partnership with Help and Care will be expanded and a full and dedicated Home Improvement Agency service set up within the Borough of Poole. This will allow Help and Care to offer a wider range of services to vulnerable groups, from overseeing home improvement works to offering carers support, advocacy and advice services. It also complements the council’s existing Supported People Programme.
Trevor George, Private Sector Housing Manager, Housing and Community Services, Borough of Poole, said: "The new funding means that through the Supported People Programme within the borough we will have a permanent Home Improvement Agency service dedicated to the Poole area. This will help even more people and allow them to access a wider range of comprehensive services so that residents can make informed choices. The Agency service through Help and Care could also access alternative funding streams helping residents have a decent, warm and comfortable home."
Cllr Bill Wretham, Cabinet Portfolio for Housing and Older Person’s Champion, Borough of Poole, said: "In Poole there are many vulnerable older or disabled people who need help to maintain their homes and access services. The release of government funding for this dedicated home improvement agency service is again further positive news and shows that Poole is very committed to assisting vulnerable groups in getting proper support and accessing services and information."
