21 Jul 05Shared Ownership Properties on the Market
A total of 82 new shared ownership homes are about to be released onto the market providing an opportunity for households who are unable to afford the average purchase price in Poole to get a foot on the property ladder.
These units are the first phase in an ongoing programme of shared ownership provision which the Borough of Poole's Housing & Community Services has been working towards delivering with its Housing Association partners. A further 120 units are expected across a two-year development programme.
Raglan Housing Association have 32 apartments for sale at Harbour Sail in West Quay Road in the town and Western Challenge Housing Association have 50 houses and flats for sale at their Eco Village development at Seldown Park.
Shared Ownership allows people to buy a share in a property and rent the remaining part from a Housing Association. In all other respects the purchaser is a normal home owner with normal rights and responsibilities. Typically, 50 per cent shares are available. The average minimum household income required to support a mortgage through Shared Ownership is approx £16,000.
In order to be considered for any form of low cost home ownership, applicants must be registered on the Borough of Poole Housing Register. Please contact Housing and Community Services on 01202 633805 for more information.
Cllr Mike White, Cabinet Portfolio Holder Portfolio for Housing, Borough of Poole, said: "We all know that getting a foot on the property ladder is difficult for many households in Poole and so we are particularly proud to have developed these new shared ownership properties with Housing Associations in Poole."
