Poole Libraries Make Room for Book Squad

The Borough of Poole's Library Service has created the Book Squad in a bid to encourage adult readers to borrow and read some great new books. This year Poole librarians and Book Squad members will be undertaking an ambitious programme to improve book stocks in the local branch library network across the Borough.

Key elements of the work to be undertaken will include adding hundreds of brand new books with the highest priority given to improving core adult stock and the withdrawal of old stock in poor condition or containing out-of-date information.

Libraries will also focus on improving the presentation of materials available and will be the first authority in the country to make widespread use of a new range of display material produced by Opening the Book, the leading designer of library furniture.

Councillor Tony Woodcock, Cabinet Portfolio Holder for Learning, Borough of Poole, said: "This is an exciting initiative by Poole Library Service. By concentrating a proportion of our book budget in this way we hope our adult library users will see the improvement in stock and be inspired to read something new."

The first library to be given The Book Squad treatment will be Oakdale Library which will be open as usual from Friday 10 June for you to call in and see the difference.
