Poole Park is set to benefit from a £25,000 windfall from the 'Living Spaces' Government grant scheme. Funded by the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister, Living Spaces provides funds and support to help people make the most of open spaces in their neighbourhood. The Friends of Poole Park is among the latest community groups to benefit from the £30million scheme. The cash will be spent on creating a new play and activity area near to the Cygnet Café. Doug Chick, Chairman of the Friends of Poole Park, said: "The Friends have had a very successful year with the Poole Park Fest and securing these funds is the icing on the cake. With all the new housing development surrounding the park, this extra facility was vital for the increased numbers expected next year The Borough of Poole’s Leisure Services team will be providing extra resources to enable this new facility to open next spring. Councillor Don Collier, Cabinet Portfolio Holder for the Environment, Borough of Poole, said: "This is a great achievement by the Friends and demonstrates their commitment to making a lasting contribution to the park. The Council is keen to help communities help themselves and this shows what can be gained from coming together for a common purpose."
