The money was raised through a Dutch auction at the Guild’s Annual Conference, held in Poole last month, where the Mace Bearers bid for a bottle of malt whisky donated by one of the Scottish members.
The donation is enough to buy eight pairs of gloves, three pairs of boots or one lifejacket for the lifeboat crew. It could also fund a full wet suit for one of the RNLI’s lifeguards.
David Knight, Prime Warden said: “As one of my first duties as the new Prime Warden I am delighted to be able to present this cheque to the RNLI and, on behalf of the Guild, I look forward to supporting other charitable organisations over the next 12 months.”
Sue Hennessy, Principal of the RNLI College
said: “We are always grateful for contributions, large or small, all of which go a long way in supporting the valuable and lifesaving work of the RNLI and we thank the Guild for their fundraising efforts.”
