20 Oct 05Big Draw at Sea View
Last Friday, the Borough of Poole's Sea View Centre for adults with learning difficulties took part in the national Campaign for Drawings' 'The Big Draw' event. The event aims to encourage people across the country to get involved in drawing activities. To mark the event around 30 service users from Sea View gathered in the centre's sports hall to create a large-scale piece of artwork.
Everyone gathered in the hall to paint and draw on a huge piece of paper. They used exciting tools to make marks on the paper such as plant misters full of ink and a ball that could be dipped in paint and rolled across the paper. Pencils, paintbrushes and pastels were taped to the end of garden canes to make it easy for people to draw whilst standing up. Sponges and large paintbrushes were used to make this workshop as accessible as possible for the people taking part. Even the staff and management made the most of the opportunity and explored their own creative skills by throwing themselves fully into the task.
Mel Bennett, Art Instructor at the Centre, Adult Social Services, Borough of Poole, said "Taking part in 'The Big Draw' gave everyone the opportunity to have lots of fun through being creative. It was a fantastic afternoon and nobody cared about how messy they got."
The afternoon resulted in a huge painting made up of expressive and colourful marks, which will be displayed at the centre.
