30 Sep 05Blue Bins Celebrate First Birthday
The Blue Bin recycling scheme in Poole is celebrating after a successful 12 months in which the amount of recyclable waste collected has rocketed. However residents are being urged to keep up the good work after further recycling targets were set by the Government.
Cllr Don Collier, Cabinet Portfolio Holder for the Environment, Borough of Poole, said: One year on since the delivery of 52,000 blue recycling bins to residents within the Borough of Poole and we really want to congratulate everyone for their overwhelming support to the scheme. The results have been amazing please keep up the good work.
Elizabeth Williams, Waste Management Officer, Environmental & Consumer Protection, Borough of Poole, said: The Borough of Poole has been set a demanding target for 2005-06, in which it has to recycle 30 per cent of total collected waste. It is therefore very important that the good work continues.
Residents are being reminded that glass, cardboard and paper, aluminium and steel cans, plastics and aerosols can all go into the blue bins. When disposing of plastic items, please check the number in the triangle. At the moment only plastics with a 1, 2, or 3 can be accepted in the blue bin. Also, please place recycling in the bin loose and not in plastic bags as they contaminate the load.
Anyone finding their blue bin is not big enough for all their recycling, but that the black bin is half empty, can have the bins swapped over so their recycling bin becomes the larger one please contact Environmental & Consumer Protection Services on 261700 to arrange this.
New recycling calendars are now available for 2005-06 and can be found on boroughofpoole.com under Environment/Refuse and Recycling collections. Residents without access to the web can call Environmental & Consumer Protection Services for a new calendar.
Collections will remain the same there will be no changes to the dates or frequency of collections.
