22 Aug 06Poole Welcomes Chinese Visitors
A delegation of senior government officials from western China’s largest modern industrial and commercial city, Chongqing City, will be visiting Poole on Thursday 24 August 2006 during a fact finding mission to the UK.
The visit was arranged through the Sino-UK Exchange based in London who are active in developing cultural and economic links between the two nations.
Eight representatives from Chongqing City, one of the four largest cities in China with a population of 31 million, will be welcomed to the town by the Mayor of Poole, Cllr Judy Butt, Cllr Brian Leverett, Leader of the Council and Cllr Ron Parker, Cabinet Portfolio holder for local economy.
The visit will include an information exchange, a presentation on the business opportunities in the area, and a discussion on how commercial links can be developed with Chongqing City.

will also be attending.
Councillor Brian Leverett, Leader of the Council said: “Delegates had heard that this area has a dynamic economy and were keen to learn about Poole, Bournemouth & Dorset and how we approach our economic development. Our hope is that a trade delegation to Chongqing City will be the ultimate outcome of this visit which would represent an exciting opportunity in the long term.”
