Poole Fights Abandoned Vehicle In Court

Borough of Poole's Environmental and Consumer Protection Services (E&CPS) has brought a successful prosecution in the fight against abandoned vehicles in the town.

A white Nissan Bluebird with no car tax was reported as being abandoned in Westminster Road, Poole, by police.

A subsequent investigation showed the owner of the car to be Mr Owen Davies, of Branksome Park, Poole. Mr Davies did not respond to letters sent to him by officers of E&CPS or an attempt to interview him to discuss the matter and legal proceedings were started.

On Friday 19 January 2007 at Bournemouth Magistrates Court, Mr Davies was fined £600 and ordered to pay £450 costs for abandoning a vehicle on the highway in contravention of the Refuse Disposal Amenity Act 1978. Mr Davies failed to attend court and the case was dealt with in his absence.

Lucy Magill, Regulatory Services Manager with E&CPS, Borough of Poole, said: "This should send a clear message to the public that Borough of Poole takes these incidents very seriously and we will take action against people who abandon vehicles on the streets of Poole."
