New Council Byelaws get tough on skin piercers

New Council Byelaws get tough on skin piercers

Officers from Environmental and Consumer Protection Services have been checking to ensure persons providing skin piercing, which includes ear piercing, semi-permanent skin-colouring, semi-permanent make-up, tattooing, acupuncture and electrolysis on their premises are registered with the Council and that they meet new hygiene and cleanliness requirements.

As part of this process, Council Officers also periodically inspect these premises for compliance with the byelaws and to check the certificate of registration is prominently displayed as required.

Cllr Don Collier, portfolio holder for the environment said "This is an opportunity to spread the message that it is necessary to be sure that all skin piercing is done in a safe and hygienic manner without  risk to the public and piercing operators"

If you visit any business undertaking these services either in a shop or residential setting, you are advised to check their registration certificate prior to having the treatment. If they do not have this then they are not registered.
