Aquagym Makes a Splash in Poole

Need to lose a little weight or increase your general fitness levels? Leisure Services may have the solution. February 2005 will see the launch of an exciting new facility at Rossmore Leisure Centre in the shape of an Aquagym.

The Aquagym is the latest development in fitness equipment technology. It is designed to transform an area of the swimming pool at Rossmore Leisure Centre into an exciting and invigorating water gymnasium, enabling customers to experience a low-impact aerobic workout. Rossmore Leisure Centre will be one of only a handful of leisure centres who are able to offer Aquagym to the local community.

It consists of eight pieces of specially designed gym equipment that are immersed into the swimming pool. You don’t need to be really fit and active to use the equipment and those who have previously been inactive can also benefit from this type of low-impact exercise.

Cllr Don Collier, Cabinet Portfolio Holder for the Environment, Borough of Poole, said: "This is a wonderful addition to Rossmore’s ever improving leisure centre. It is very important in many cases to bring gentle exercise into your lifestyle and this new system makes it even easier and fun."

The Aquagym will also prove a valuable tool for patients who access Poole’s GP Exercise Referral Scheme, by offering a safe alternative to gym based physical activity. For further information about accessing the Aquagym please ring Rossmore Leisure Centre on (01202) 738787.

For further information concerning the GP Exercise Referral Scheme please speak to your own GP or contact the Scheme Administrator on (01202) 261300.
