8 Dec 06National Recognition For Poole Safe Scheme
Poole Safe
, the scheme which aims to cut alcohol-related crime and disorder in the Borough, has scooped a trio of national awards.
The scheme, which sees the Borough of Poole and Poole Police
working in partnership with local licensees, has won prestigious accolades at the 'British institute of Innkeepers’
(BII) NITA Awards and the Springboard Awards For Excellence
.
They follow Poole Safe’s recent success at last month’s national Responsible Drinks Retailing
(RDR) Awards, where the scheme collected the ‘Best Partnership’ award. This recognised initiatives developed by the Poole Safe Team, including professional training for staff, taxi marshals, new Pub Watch groups, safer drinking programmes and the Safe and Sound Awards to accredit well-run venues.
The scheme aims to build on Poole’s superb reputation as a safe place to live, work and visit by encouraging responsible attitudes towards alcohol sales and consumption.
Cllr Don Collier, Cabinet Portfolio Holder for the Environment, Borough of Poole, said: "The awards are a recognition of all the hard work put into Poole Safe by officers from the Borough of Poole’s Environmental & Consumer Protection Service and Poole Police. It reflects the commitment they have made to Poole residents and businesses.”
Acting Sergeant Chris Ingram, of Poole Police, said: "Licensees across Poole work hard to ensure a safe and enjoyable environment for customers and staff. The awards are testament to the partnership between licensees, Borough of Poole and Police and further highlight Poole as a great place to enjoy a safe night out.”
Local training company, Innpacked Ltd
, in partnership with Poole Safe, won an award in the 'Social Responsibilities' category at the BII NITA Award. This award identifies organisations which develop the best courses to address social responsibility issues facing licensees and staff.
The award recognises a course developed by the team aimed at the licensed trade, offering conflict management training to bar staff working at the frontline. Poole Safe has also obtained funding to subsidise the course.
Poole Safe, in conjunction with Innpacked Ltd, offers professional training courses accredited by the British Institute of Innkeepers.
Poole Safe also won the ‘Corporate Citizenship’ category at the national Springboard UK Limited Awards, sponsored by BII, which recognise excellence in hospitality, leisure, travel and tourism.
The award was presented for work done to educate Poole licensees about the Licensing Act and how to provide a safer environment for the staff and customers. The partnership incorporated BII courses into their training and the sessions have shown good results, leading to a fall in alcohol-related violent crime.
Judges were looking for the winner to demonstrate real commitment to social responsibility - both at strategic and operational level. They were also looking for evidence of effective initiatives supporting a holistic approach to all aspects of social responsibility.
