Poole's New Market Gains Momentum

Poole’s new and permanent Street Market will welcome an increase in traders as it heads towards its third week. Following positive public reaction to the market’s return to the town, Street Market organisers have received an increase in traders wishing to join the market, and therefore hope to fill further spaces along the High Street this Thursday.

Vicky Lee of Poole was thrilled to see such a quality and bustling market return to Poole. She said: “It created a fantastic atmosphere and offered such a mix of products - I hope it continues to be supported by the local community. It is about time we had our market back and, by the look of things, great care has been taken to get it right.”

The revival of the market represents an historical turning point for the Borough where a weekly market was originally established in 1453. It was ceased after the Second World War and subsequently Poole was no longer classed a Market Town.

The Town Centre Management link will open in new windowteam is undertaking strict control of the market’s many elements, ensuring the traders’ presentation and stock is appropriate. Helen Crawford, Town Centre Manager, was pleased with the public’s initial reaction last week and hopes word of mouth, as well as a steady advertising campaign, will increase numbers week by week. She said: “We want it to grow steadily whilst retaining a quality feel. It should become the place to spot a bargain and we are taking great pains to oversee the right mix of items available.”

The Street Market will be based in the middle section of the High Street every Thursday from 8.30am to 5.00pm.
