Who needs the Caribbean when Sandbanks is being hailed the Best Beach in Britain after receiving a record 17th Blue Flag.
No other beach in the UK can boast as many of the coveted awards as Sandbanks's three miles of golden sands, which have again been rated first class. In addition Shore Road Beach and Branksome Chine Beach in Poole are also celebrating after being awarded Blue Flags.
The Blue Flag was hoisted just two hours after thousands of people enjoyed the first of 13 successive weeks of Poole's huge beach parties - 'Summer Breeze…On the Beach' - complete with fireworks at Shore Road. The occasion was also attended by the Royal Marines and Mayor of Poole, Les Burden.
Cllr Don Collier, Cabinet portfolio holder for Leisure and Recreation, said: "This is fantastic news - Sandbanks to Branksome Chine are clearly the Best Beaches in Britain attracting hundreds of thousands of visitors every year from Poole, across the country and even the world. We are proud of our stunning beaches and this award goes to prove our hard work has paid off and we remain ahead of the competition."
As well as enjoying Poole's clean beaches and water, visitors can enjoy the 18-hole putting green, beach massage by qualified staff, hair braiding and henna tattoos. In addition Summer Breeze… on the Beach, is being held every Thursday evening throughout June, July and August at Shore Road.
Clive Smith, Head of Leisure Services, Borough of Poole, said: "Our beaches team work incredibly hard to ensure the beaches are of the highest standard and this award again reflects the dedication and commitment of our staff. With no other beach getting as many Blue Flags we have every reason to celebrate it as Britain's Best and look forward to a fantastic summer season."
