Local Carers' Rights Day celebrations are being held in Broadstone in Poole on Friday 2nd December. The event is intended to help people who give care to a friend or relative who has an illness or disability or is frail due to ageing and lives in Poole. This event is one of over 500 being run throughout the UK intended to support the 1in 8 people who are informal carers.
As part of the day's activities there will be presentations on:
- Carers Rights \n
- Dorset Emergency Care Service \n
- Helping Your GP To Help You \n
- Pensions and benefits \n
Carers will also get the chance to speak to experts, listen to presentations and join in a discussion about services from Social Services, GP Practices, Hospitals and the Ambulance service. Ideas and comments will be used to help improve services in the future.
The day will have a Christmas feel with children from nearby Broadstone First School singing carols at lunch time. There is no charge for carers to attend the event which takes place 10.00am -3.30pm, lunch is provided.
Cllr Elaine Atkinson, Cabinet Portfolio Holder for Community Support, Borough of Poole, said: "Carers are often unsung heroes working tirelessly and with devotion for others but may not know what rights and support they can have access to. This day is designed to give them information about what help and services they can receive and we know from the past that the day has always been well attended."
