A new era for the Poole Park Miniature Railway begins as the current train operator for the last 25 years, Brian Merrifield, takes his well deserved retirement.
Chris Bullen, who also operates the popular land train in the town, has taken over and is looking to develop the business in a number of exciting ways. A new steam train is planned, as are improvements aimed at enabling children with disabilities to use the service. Trackside signals and special events are also part of Chris’s vision, which he hopes will ensure the train remains as popular with children in the future as it has been in the past.
Bob Lister, Publicity Officer for the Friends of Poole Park
, said: “The railway is an important part of Poole Park’s history and so many visitors, young and old, have fond memories of it. It is really encouraging to hear there are plans to develop the service, and the Friends of Poole Park look forward to working with the operator and the Council to make this change as successful as possible.”
Councillor Don Collier, Cabinet Portfolio Member for the Environment, said: “I am delighted that a traditional feature of the park is being taken forward in such a positive way. So many of us will remember taking our children on the train, or perhaps riding on it ourselves, and I am very pleased to hear that this service will receive the necessary investment to maintain its success for the future.”
