Christmas Recycling Made Easy

Everyone knows that Christmas time means extra waste as a direct result of all the presents and the indulgent eating and drinking associated with the festive period.

Residents are reminded Christmas cards, wrapping paper, cardboard boxes, pickles and sauces jars, not to mention the wine bottles and beer cans, can all be recycled through the Council’s Blue Bin recycling scheme. Residents are also reminded to wash and squash their recycling (where appropriate) to gain maximum capacity.

Those households who miss a recycling collection over the Christmas period will be issued with clear plastic bags to accommodate extra recycling.   On the first recycling collection day after Christmas, the Borough of Poole will collect any excess recycling in cardboard boxes and clear plastic bags.

Christmas trees can be taken for recycling to the Nuffield Household Waste Recycling Centre.  This is open every day except Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day (25 & 26 December and 1 January).  They can also be taken to Upton Country Park from Tuesday 3 January – Sunday 15 January (inclusive). 

Bulky household waste can also be disposed of at the Nuffield Household Waste Recycling Centre.

Keen recyclers may be finding that they do not require such a large refuse bin to accommodate their general waste, but could benefit from a larger recycling bin. If this is you, please contact Environmental & Consumer Protection Services (01202 261700) who will be happy to discuss the possibility of issuing alternative sized bins.
