Key areas in Poole are to be targeted by parking wardens in a bid to enforce regulations later in the evenings and at danger spots.
Extra recruitment is underway which will provide additional cover for the peak summer period up to 10.30pm weekdays and 11pm at the weekends. Amongst the areas to be included are the Quay, the Old Town and Canford Cliffs, but any illegal parking on yellow lines is liable to attract a Penalty Charge Notice for drivers contravening the regulations.
Cllr Ron Parker, Portfolio Holder for Local Economy including Transportation said: ”Our message is that there are plenty of car parks with reasonable 60p evening charges, near to these popular spots. Don’t run the risk of picking up a fine. It has been particularly drawn to our attention that taxis are often being prevented from accessing their designated ranks late in the evening, due to indiscriminate parking by individuals who are flouting the rules. We have a duty to enforce the regulations for the benefit of all road users.”
In addition to popular visitor areas, school approach roads are also an area of increased risk as parents and carers often park for long periods on yellow lines while waiting to collect children from school. The availability of extra wardens means they will also be closely monitored.
The issue of a Penalty Charge Notice currently incurs a £60 penalty with a reduction to £30 if paid within 14 days.
