Travelling In True Style With Not A Car In Sight!

In days gone by it was the only form of travel but now the Horse and Carriage is a rare sight. However, at 10.30am on Monday 22 September the Mayor of Poole, Councillor Ray Smith and the Sheriff of Poole, Councillor Les Burden, will arrive in full liveried style as Borough of Poole's Travelwise team open 'In Town without My Car' day.

Arriving in a Landau Carriage drawn by two white horses, the Mayor of Poole will cut the ribbon and officially open the event surrounded by a variety of exhibitions, stalls and demonstrations. 'Lush' will be giving away free samples of handmade cosmetics, Truly Scrumptious will be offering delicious confectionery and there will be stalls from River Cottage Foods and The Dorset Farmers Market to name but a few. The whole event will be directed at acknowledging a more environmentally aware approach to travelling around the Borough.

'In Town without my Car' is a European accredited event that helps to bring a different perspective on how we can protect our own environments and that of the world around us. The Borough of Poole has always been keen to encourage this and will temporarily close the lower High Street in Poole, on Monday 22 September, from 10.00am until 6.00pm.

Councillor Ron Parker, Cabinet Portfolio Holder for Transportation Services, said: "This is a really good opportunity to make people aware of alternative methods of transport and as the day will be published by the Department for Transport in their Good Practice Guide it will be a fantastic opportunity for Poole to show that it is a very pro-active Council."
