Poole's First Community Champions Honoured

The first recipients of the Borough of Poole's Community Champions award scheme recognising those who have gone the extra mile to help others, will receive their special pin badges and certificates in a ceremony tomorrow.

Deputy Leader of the Council, Cllr Ann Stribley will honour six young people in a special assembly at Baden Powell and St Peter's Middle School in Parkstone.

The recipients, who are all pupils at the school, have been nominated for a range of community activities including fundraising for Guide Dogs for the Blind, performing in a number of Christmas musical concerts and undertaking the role of a carer.

Cllr Stribley said: "I am delighted to present these outstanding young people - the first of the Poole's Community Champions - with their lapel badges in recognition of their magnificent contribution. Something as simple as giving up their time to perform musically at an elderly people's home or busking in the town centre in aid of a charity makes a huge difference to the lives of others and quite rightly these youngsters deserve to be recognised. Their efforts at the heart of our community make the town a better place for everyone to live and work."

The Community Champion award scheme has three levels of achievement - blue, silver and gold and is designed to encourage people to continue with their good work.

Anyone can nominate an individual or group they feel has contributed to Poole or to the local community and nominations can be sent in at any time. Nomination forms can be by visiting boroughofpoole.com/applyforit or by contacting Democratic Services at the Civic Centre. Completed forms should be returned to Head of Democratic Services, Civic Centre, Poole BH15 2RU
