31 Mar 06Poole Schools' Success at Key Stage 3
Figures published by the Department for Education and Skills show that Poole secondary schools achieved results well above the national average at Key Stage 3 in 2005.
Poole has been congratulated by school standards minister Jacqui Smith. The 2005 test results for the Borough's 14 year olds put Poole in the top 10 of the most improved local authorities in the country.
Jacqui Smith said "I am delighted to congratulate you on the excellent and improving results of schools in your authority in this year's Key Stage 3 results." Ms Smith has also congratulated Poole on being one of the most improved local authorities in the country at Key Stage 2.
Detailed statistics show that Poole's Key Stage 3 results were six percentage points higher than the national average in mathematics, seven percentage points in English and 10 percentage points in science. In all three subjects Poole is in the top quartile nationally. In science, Poole is fourth best in the country.
The 2005 results are also an improvement on 2004. Mathematics has increased by two percentage points, English by nine percentage points and science by seven percentage points.
Jane Portman, Head of School Advice and Support said "Our results this year are impressive building on already good results in 2004."
Councillor Tony Woodcock, Cabinet Portfolio for Children's and Youth Services said "Our pupils and schools are to be congratulated, it reflects their hard work and commitment and provides an excellent basis for success at GCSE."
