Beach Fireworks Cancelled

This week’s Summer Breeze on the Beach (including the fireworks) at Sandbanks is being cancelled, as kick-off time for the England vs Portugal match is at 7.45pm on Thursday coinciding with all the live entertainment taking place on the beach.

Graham Richardson, Manager of Poole Tourism , said: "Even last Thursday when England played earlier in the day the low crowd numbers were dispiriting to entertainers and traders who had turned out.  This week's later kick-off and knock out match gives us good reason to believe that very few would be at the event. 

“We hope all involved will appreciate that is a common sense decision and we will be energetic in promoting this cancellation.  Crowds play an important part in any event - but we feared there would be a larger crowd  in some homes than we would have achieved on the beach."

If England were to reach the Final on Sunday 4th July, win or lose, Poole Tourism are ready to put on an extra fireworks display on Poole Quay that night.

Next Thursday Summer Breeze on the Beach will go ahead as normal, as an England win would result in a Semi-Final next Wednesday.
