CALLING ALL CYCLISTS

To celebrate the Festival of Cycling Week, the Borough of Poole’s Bicycle User Group invites all cyclists to a `Picnic in the Park’ on Tuesday 19 June from 12noon to 2pm at the cricket pavilion in Poole Park.

The Mayor of Poole, Cllr Ron Parker, will be arriving on a tandem at 1pm. Come along and join the fun, have a go on the reverse steer bike and see an electric bike in action. There will be free food, bike checks, cycleway maps, armbands and competitions.

For cyclists visiting the Town Centre, new individual cycle storage bins have been installed at key locations. Together with the existing bins in Castle Street, outside Old Orchard car park, there are new bins opposite the railway station in Serpentine Road, and behind the bus station in Kingland Road Service Road.

As a result of a further initiative, cyclists who commute to work in the Town Centre can now have a shower before starting work. A new scheme introduced at Poole Sports Centre offers free shower facilities to Bronze members of the Sports Centre and non- members can use the facilities after 8am at a cost of 75p.

Sally Funnell, Cycling Officer at the Borough of Poole, said: "By continuing to expand the cycleway network in Poole and offering further facilities for cyclists, we are endeavouring to encourage more people to get on their bikes. We hope that many cyclists will come along to the Picnic and let us have their ideas for improving conditions for cyclists in the Borough."
