9 Nov 06Entrance Restrictions At Nuffield Household Waste Recycling Centre
New restrictions will come into effect from 1 December 2006 at the Nuffield Household Recycling Centre, aimed at improving safety and tackling illegal misuse by traders. The restrictions will ban vans larger than 3.5 tonnes unladen and large trailers entering the site.
Vans smaller than 3.5 tonnes can continue to use the site however checks may be undertaken at the Council’s discretion to confirm that the vehicle does not contain any commercial waste. Any type of car, including 4 x 4s or camper vans and small trailers (6 x 4 ft / 1.2 x 1.8 metres), will be unaffected by the changes and are encouraged to use the site as normal.
Cllr Don Collier, Cabinet Portfolio holder for the Environment, said: “The new restrictions have been introduced in the interest of public safety and will assist the authority in tackling illegal waste disposal at the site. Unless a van falls within the weight restrictions it will not be permitted to access the site."
He added: ”Residents may not know that in partnership with the Borough of Poole, Dorset Reclaim, a registered charity based on Nuffield Estate, offer a collection service for heavy household items which they can repair or recycle the items for other families in need of replacement furniture.”
As part of the new changes, the Council is considering offering a service to assist smaller businesses with the legal disposal of their waste. Consideration is being given to the provision of a competitive chargeable facility for local traders.
