20 Apr 01POOLE BRITANNIA!
Poole Tourism has joined with The Poole Advertiser to launch a patriotic new campaign to coincide with St George's Day and further the success of the Poole It's A Beautiful Place Campaign.A brand new car sticker and flag has been designed to bring Poole's identity to England's National emblem. These new flags will be springing up across the town ready for St George's Day on Monday 23 April and are anticipated to be seen around the world at the various international sporting events taking place this season.
Local residents will also have an opportunity to join the campaign by collecting free car stickers with the new design. The Poole Advertiser on Thursday 19 April will carry a voucher for the stickers which can be redeemed at Poole's Tourist Information Centre and The Daily Echo and Advertiser office in Poole High Street. The flags will also be on sale at Poole Tourist Information Centre in Poole High Street priced at £10.
The first recipient of the new flag, will be Steve Creech, proprietor of Bowtuck Sandwich Bar in Poole High Street. Steve and his fellow Poole Town supporters attend as many England sports fixtures across the world as they can. Last year they attended all the England away games for Euro 2000 and will be taking the first flag to the England v Greece football game on 6 June 2001.
Bruce Grant-Braham, Chairman of the Poole Tourism Panel said "This is a great way for Poole people to support their country and show civic pride. If we can promote Poole both nationally and internationally, it's a valuable way to create awareness and investment for our town."
Steve Creech said "We are really proud to be given the opportunity to fly the flag for both our home and our country. If you can't get to the game itself then look out for us on the TV coverage!"
The flag and stickers comprise the St George's Cross (a red cross on a white background) with the Poole It's A Beautiful Place logo in the top left hand corner.
Each voucher allows the bearer to collect up to two free stickers.
