5 Apr 01MASSIVE INVESTMENT IN HAMWORTHY SCHOOLS
School pupils in Hamworthy will benefit from nearly Ł4million investment, following a successful bid for Government funding.
The money will be used to update and improve the buildings and facilities of three schools - Hamworthy First School, Hamworthy Middle School and Carter Community School.
Plans include moving Hamworthy Middle School to new premises based at Carter Community School and relocating Hamworthy First School to improved facilities at the vacated Middle School site at Ashmore Crescent. Carter Community school will also benefit from improved facilities, including a brand new sports hall.
Clare Taylor, Head Teacher of Hamworthy First School, said: "This is what the children and families of Hamworthy deserve. The new site will provide a far healthier and safer environment for our children."
Angie Best, Head Teacher of Hamworthy Middle School said: "This will make the whole of the Hamworthy community feel valued. Hamworthy’s children will have access to the best facilities."
David Pratten, Head Teacher of Carter Community School said: "I see this as a ‘win, win, win’ situation for everyone. This investment will encourage even greater links between our schools, which already benefit from a close working relationship."
Cllr Mrs Annette Brooke, Lead Member for Learning said, "This is wonderful news for the whole community of Hamworthy and for Poole itself. Along with our plans for new sporting facilities and sports college status at Carter Community School this will give the Hamworthy area up to date educational and sporting facilities, with new opportunities for study and recreation. The bid for this pot of Government money had to be made in a short time scale and we now need to work very quickly with Governors of all the schools and members of the Community to ensure that we get the best possible facilities for everyone."
The government funding is available for two years and building work on the project will need to be completed within that time. A Council project team will now commence consultation with the local community and schools to finalise plans for the development.
