6 Mar 01FOOT AND MOUTH UPDATE: NEW PRECAUTIONS AT UPTON COUNTRY PARK
Due to the worsening national Foot and Mouth situation, the gardens, trails, cycleway and woodlands at Upton Country Park are now closed to the public.Although there is no evidence of Foot and Mouth in the Poole area, humans and animals can spread the problem, therefore these measures have been taken to reduce the risk of contact between the public and farm stock.
Pre-booked, indoor activities in Upton House are continuing as normal. Contractors and anyone using the Park for business use may enter the Park, but members of the public will be turned away.
These safety measures will be applied till further notice. Should the situation change, additional restrictions may be necessary.
Nick Woods, Countryside Services Manager, said: "In order to protect the Park and reduce the risk of Foot and Mouth developing in Poole it has been necessary to close the park grounds to the public. Once the situation has been resolved, the Park will re-open but in the meantime we would like to apologise for any inconvenience and thank the public for their support."
