16 Jun 04Poole Family Cycle Ride
To celebrate Bike Week this year the Borough of Poole have organised a Family Cycle Ride from Baiter Slipway car park in Labrador Drive to Upton Country Park on Saturday 19 June 2004 at 10.30am.The ride to the park is about 3½ miles and every participant will receive a voucher for a free drink or ice cream at the Peacock Tea Rooms. Children will get a Certificate.The route will start on the road but then move on to traffic free paths by the side of the Holes Bay Road and through Upton Country Park. At the end of the ride cyclists can go further, if they wish, on the Roman Road to Corfe Mullen and Ashington or use the Castleman Trailway to get to Broadstone and Wimborne.
Sally Funnell, Cycling Officer, Borough of Poole, said: "Bike week this year has been very popular with about 1200 events nationwide and an expected 150,000 participants."
Cllr Ron Parker, the Portfolio Holder for Local Economy including Transportation said "We are hoping that the Family Bike Ride will be a great success for healthy outdoor exercise for the whole family. The refreshments at Upton Country Park will be a well-earned reward. The Borough has 37 miles of cycleway and we invite you all to explore these to help reduce traffic congestion."
