Young people from across Poole and the UK will have the chance to get their feet wet and have a Summer they’ll never forget at this year’s action-packed Youth Afloat Festival - the biggest and best event of its kind in the country!

Sponsored by Southern Electric and organised by the Borough of Poole, the event is being held on Saturday 30th June and Sunday 1st July 2001 and will attract around 2,000 young people aged 8 to 17 from across the UK to Poole’s Baiter Park. The weekend promises to give young people the opportunity to try a wide range of watersports under the supervision of qualified instructors, in a safe environment.

Sophie Greenyer, of event’s sponsors Southern Electric, said: "Youth Afloat promotes the welfare and well-being of the young and we are delighted to have been able to play a part in this year’s event, providing young people with the opportunity to experience the various challenges water-sports have to offer."

The action-packed weekend offers a wide range of water activities including, Off Shore Sailing, Sub Aqua Diving, Canoeing, Dinghy Sailing, Fishing, Rowing, Surf Chasing, Wind Surfing and Dragon Boat Racing. Youth Afloat is able to cater for young people with disabilities, with Activity Co-ordinators on hand to help you find activities suitable for you.

Two new and exciting water activities have been introduced for 2001, Motor Cruising and Raft Racing. In addition to water-sports, there a number of land based activities to take part in including abseilling, a treasure trail and Youth Afloat’s own disco with music provided by Fire FM.

It forms an important part of the Borough’s commitment to young people. I would like to thank all our sponsors for their support, without whom none of this would have been possible."
