21 Feb 01YOUNG ARTISTS HAVE A LOT OF BOTTLE
Young people from Poole are ready to transform their local can bank using a bit of imagination, creativity, paint brushes ... and spray cans! The Arts Development Team of Poole's Youth Services, in conjunction with the Borough of Poole's Consumer Protection Services, have been working with young people to create some eye catching designs for recycling banks in the area. After choosing the best designs, the young artists are picking up their cans and preparing to brighten up the recycling banks with graffiti art. The first can bank is being painted during half-term and will then be placed in the community where the young artists come from.
The project is part of the Arts Development team's commitment to identify and support young graffiti artists in Poole. The Poole Quay Events held last Summer gave a number of young people the opportunity to have a go at graffiti. Some of the young artists that were spotted at the event have already helped to add a splash of colour to an old police station, as part of the Ashley Road graffiti project.
Rosie Dee, Arts Development Worker, said: "Many young people do not really see themselves as artists when they are in fact very creative and this project has certainly unravelled creative flair in many of the young people involved. By organising projects such as this, we are providing canvases for young people to show their artistic talent, instead of on the streets where it is not always appreciated."
Peter Pawlowski, Head of Consumer Protection Services, said: "This shows our continuing commitment to working in partnership with the local community to further promote our already successful recycling schemes within the Borough."
