15 Feb 01CASH BOOST FOR TRAVEL PLAN ADVICE
Poole is now well on track to tackle congestion after being awarded £153,000 from the Government to help develop travel plans for local schools and businesses over the next three years.
Two new Travel Plan Co-ordinators will be helping Poole businesses and schools to measure and reduce the impact of their travel and transport on the local environment.
The plan will also bring a number of benefits to those who travel. For staff, this can include improvements in health and general quality of life by reducing stress and help to save time and money travelling. Travel plans also have a knock-on effect on the local community, improving public transport services and reducing over-spill parking in residential areas and around schools.
Two Poole organisations, Marconi Communications and Poole Hospital, are already benefiting from the introduction of their own individual travel plans.
Ken Pearce, Principal Engineer for Borough of Poole, said: "We are encouraging everyone to change the way they travel, including reducing the amount of travel and using more environmentally-friendly transport. In addition we will be working with businesses and schools to help them introduce their own individual travel plans. This will not only help employees, students and parents but it will also promote greener, cleaner travel choices and help reduce our reliance on the car".
