2 Feb 01PARKSTONE LIBRARY - Britannia Road, Ashley Cross, Parkstone - TEMPORARY CLOSURE
Parkstone Library will be shut for two days on Friday 2 and Saturday 3 February 2001 to allow building work to correct a one-inch subsidence in the floor in the library. It will re-open for normal business on Monday 5 February.
The subsidence has been caused by dry rot in the hundred-year-old floor joists and contractors will be working over the weekend to correct the problem. The cost of the work is not yet known but the decision to close the library was taken so that the work can be completed quickly and safely, and to avoid any future disruption as far as possible.
Throughout the works library staff will be on hand to help customers with returned library items via an alternative entrance but regrettably no new items can be issued. Books can be renewed by phone at any Poole library – the Central Library’s number is 01202-262421.
David Parish, Libraries Support Services Manager at Borough of Poole said;
‘Obviously the last thing we would wish to do is close a library, and we’d like to apologise to our customers for any inconvenience. We look forward to getting back to normal on Monday.’
Claire Chidley, Head of Cultural Services
