26 Jan 01LOLLIPOP RULES CHANGE
Amendments to the Road Traffic Act 1984, which take effect from 30 January 2001, enable school crossing patrols in England and Wales to assist any pedestrians who want help to cross the road.
These new regulations mean that when on duty, patrols can cross any pedestrians and not just school children.
Sally Funnell, Cycling/Walking Officer with the Borough of Poole, said: "In the past patrols have been criticised by some motorists for crossing adults. This amendment means they are now free to cross anyone and we hope that pedestrians that feel vulnerable will take advantage of the change in the rules."
