Borough of Poole employees recently got their hands dirty to raise money for the Mayor's Charity, the Ladybird Appeal. The Poole Tidy Up Day took place on Friday 1st December. The idea, formulated by the Council's Customer Care Working Group, aimed to tidy up the working environment within the Council. The initiative not only helped to improve employee working areas but to also improve the customer care given to Poole people.
Employees were quick to roll up their sleeves and clear out unneeded paper and other office items. As a result of the day, around 500 sacks were filled, the majority of which were recyclable. Employees were also given the opportunity to come to work in their jeans that day and make a contribution to the Mayor's Charity, the Ladybird Appeal. The charity is raising money to build a dedicated breast unit in Poole, and nearly £200 was raised from the day.
During Poole Tidy Up Day a variety of strange and unusual objects were cleared out, including a 'Bathing Belles Board,' which was picked as the winner of most unusual object award. The board cheekily depicts two bathing suit clad tourists, from which people stand behind to have their photograph taken.
The Mayor of Poole, Cllr Mrs Joyce Jones, said: "I am delighted with the good humoured and enthusiastic response of so many of our employees. Not only will our offices be less cluttered, but it will allow us to provide a better service to people in Poole. The Ladybird Appeal is a great cause, and the money raised on the day will help us reach our target, ultimately providing an important service for our community."
