15 Dec 00NEW PLAY AREA OPENS AT PRINCESS GARDENS
A new playground at Princess Gardens in Branksome Park for children up to 9 years old will be opened by the Mayor at 2 pm on Monday 18th December 2000.
This new play area for the local community has been provided by the Borough of Poole at a cost of £20,000 and is linked to the Council’s new play strategy. The play area and equipment have been designed around a maritime theme and reflects the local nature of the park.
Heatherlands Middle School organised a design and naming competition for the play area and two designs were chosen to be featured. The winning design ‘Bubble Bay’ is by 7 year old Nina Grove, and the other design by runner-up Jemma Ellis, also aged 7, is entitled ‘Shark Bay’.
Mayor of Poole, Councillor Mrs Joyce Jones said: "This is a very exciting new play area for local children and I think it is wonderful that residents have been involved in its design."
