3 Aug 05Counterfeit DVDs seized from Poole E-Bay Seller
Consumers are warned to take care when purchasing goods on internet auction sites such as E-Bay.
Officers from the Borough Of Poole’s Environmental & Consumer Protection Services are receiving an increasingly high number of complaints in relation to goods purchased on these sites. Of most concern are the large number of counterfeit items being offered for sale. Such items include DVDs and clothes.
Trading Standards Officers from ECPS will investigate any allegations of counterfeit goods being sold and sellers may face prosecution. Officers recently executed a warrant on a private address in Poole and seized two computers and 400 counterfeit DVDs.
Shaun Robson, Head of Environmental and Consumer Protection Services, warned that anyone involved in supplying counterfeit products over the internet can expect the same treatment. He said: “The sale of counterfeit goods is not only detrimental to consumers in terms of quality, this illegal activity distorts the economy both in terms of the black market and is a source of unfair competition against legitimate business.”
Cllr Don Collier, Cabinet Portfolio Holder for the Environment, Borough of Poole said: “Consumers are urged to seek assurance that the goods they bid for are genuine, should you be suspicious of any items being offered for sale please report this to Environmental and Consumer Protection.”
