New Neighbourhood Nursery Opens in Alderney

On Sunday 31 August Annette Brooke, M.P. assisted by the Deputy Mayor of Poole, Councillor Graham Mason officially opened the new day nursery Cuddles Rossmore.

In her opening speech, Annette Brooke, expressed her pleasure in opening the nursery and said that it would provide a new opportunity for local parents to access training and employment opportunities, knowing that their children would be well cared for in the nursery and crèche.

Vicki Taylor, the regional Neighbourhood Nursery Advisor for the Department for Education and Skills, who also attended the official opening, said: "This nursery fulfils all Government expectations in creating a full daycare nursery for children aged 0-4 to support local families. The facilities are exceptional and I’m certain that young children in this area will benefit from such high quality provision".

The nursery has been subsidised through grants from the New Opportunities Fund and the Sure Start Unit at the DFES and will offer priority subsidised places for families in Alderney.

Cllr Tony Woodcock, Education Portfolio Holder, said: "I’m delighted that the first neighbourhood nursery has opened in the Alderney area. Through these schemes the Council is working hard to ensure that child care services are provided around the Borough where they are really needed. This kind of support before formal schooling begins is essential to ensure Poole children get the best start possible and means that parents can be totally confident in their care whilst they are out at work or developing new skills. The new Community Learning Centre, soon to be built on the same site will further improve the facilities for parents to retrain in new skills while remaining close to their children in the nursery."

This is the second purpose-built nursery opened by Linda Duly; her first on Canford Heath opened in September 2001. Her dedicated staff offer high quality childcare in a safe, secure and stimulating environment. Future plans include working closely with Rossmore Community College, to support both college and community activities.

Parents wanting more information on the nursery and crèche facility should contact the nursery on 01202 747198 or call in at the nursery on the Rossmore Community College campus.
