National Home Energy Conservation Conference

Over 250 delegates from energy conservation groups and local authorities including Poole will be attending the two day National Home Energy Conservation Association (HECA) conference in May. At the gala dinner on the 10 May there will be a presentation of Awards to HECA officers who have made outstanding achievements in home energy conservation in their areas.

The majority of the delegates attending are local government officers who have responsibility for implementing the Home Energy Conservation Act. The aim of the Act is to reduce energy consumption of domestic properties by 30% by 2010.

Erica Pretty, Private Sector Co-ordinator, Housing and Community Services, Borough of Poole, and member of the National Conference Steering Group, said: "It is hoped that this year’s conference will continue to build on the success of last year’s conference in Cardiff. This year’s theme 'All Change for Climate Change' will reflect the important role home energy efficiency can play in alleviating the threat that continues to expose the environment and our planet."

The mayor of Bournemouth, Cllr Emily Morrell-Cross will be attending the conference on the 11 May. She will also be making a presentation to the Women’s Refuge on behalf of the Conference Organising Committee.

Other speakers at the event include Baroness Maddock, Member of the House of Lords; Prof John Cheshire, Chairman of Energy Efficiency Partnership for Homes; Brenda Boardman, Head of Lower Carbon Futures team, Oxford University and Peter Brunt from the DTI Energy Strategy Team.
