Poole Car Parks Get The 'Parkmark'

The Borough of Poole is celebrating as three of its town centre car parks, the Dolphin Shopping Centre, Quay Visitors and High Street Shops, are re-accredited with the Safer Parking Award link will open in new window(Parkmark) for the fifth year running. A fourth car park, Shoppers 1 & 2 in the Town Centre is re-accredited after missing out on the awards last year.

Formally known as the Secured Parking Awards, the Parkmark Scheme link will open in new windowis run by the Association of Chief Police Officers link will open in new windowand administered by the British Parking Association link will open in new window. The scheme is designed to encourage all those responsible for managing car parks in the UK, whether local authority or private sector, to strive for excellence, reduce car crime and increase customer confidence in a safe and secure environment.

The accredited car parks in Poole were, once again, recognised for experiencing low levels of crime, having a high standard of cleanliness and being regarded by users as a safe environment. The re-accreditation of Shoppers 1 & 2 car park reflects the £5,000 investment made by the Council over the past year to refurbish the lifts and provide the right clean and safe environment for customers when visiting the town.

Councillor Ron Parker, Cabinet Member, Portfolio Holder for the Local Economy and Transport said: “I am delighted that we have achieved national recognition for our Town Centre Car Parks. Over the last 12 months we have made some significant improvements including major works at the Quay Visitors Car Park which are still being completed. In addition we have also worked closely with the police in reducing the risk of car crime. These are very practical ways in which the Council can support a vibrant economy”.

Inspector Glen Chalk from Dorset Police link will open in new windowsaid: "The accreditation of the Poole Town Centre car parks is great news and a perfect example of how we in the police together with the Borough of Poole are working in close partnership to make Poole a safe place to live, work and visit. A huge effort has, and continues to be made, in respect of vehicle crime. Though this is indeed good news, it doesn’t give rise to complacency. We ask that people take simple preventative steps to avoid becoming a victim of crime when they leave their cars anywhere in the Borough - not just the car parks".
