22 Mar 07Poole Bridge Closure
Poole Bridge will undergo lane restrictions and temporary closures from 16 to 20 April to allow additional work to the lifting section of the bridge.
On each evening, commencing Monday 16 April and finishing on Friday 20 April 2007, a lane closure, with traffic lights, will operate on Poole Bridge from 7pm until 11.45pm. The footways will remain open to pedestrians and cyclists.
The bridge will be closed completely to all vehicles and pedestrians between 11.45pm and 5.30am on the same four nights. There will be no pedestrian ferry service during the period the bridge is closed completely.
Outside of these hours there will be no restrictions.
These essential works are required following refurbishment and resurfacing work which took place in October 2006.
All of the schedule bridge lifts will continue to take place, but will only be single-leaf lift.
Every endeavour will be made to provide commercial requested lifts, but these will also be single-leaf unless at least 24 hours notice is received.
John Rice, Engineering Manager, Transportation Services, said: ”The work being undertaken is essential and we hope that the disruption this causes is minimal. The overnight lane restrictions mean that there is only a minimal amount of time that we need to close the bridge completely. We apologise sincerely for any inconvenience these works may cause. ”
