27 Oct 00NEW STUDENT OPPORTUNITY
Students in Poole are benefitting from a new initiative which links secondary schools and the Bournemouth and Poole College.
Fresh from their GCSE successes in the summer, students from Poole are now able to follow a wider range of courses than in the past. A project established by the Borough of Poole, links courses provided by St Edward’s School, The Martin Kemp Welch School and Bournemouth and Poole College to give students greater choice.
Through the scheme students were offered the chance to choose from 12 different subjects including Law, PE and German. Transport between the schools and the college is arranged through the Borough of Poole.
David Beardsley the Borough of Poole’s Post-16 Co-ordinator, said: "This scheme allows students more choice at a time when the government is encouraging greater breadth of study after GCSEs. We thank the local Lifelong Learning Partnership which is funding this project."
Jeff Hart, Head of School Advice and Support Service said, "I am delighted with this innovative Borough scheme, but this is only the beginning. All local authorities are being asked by the Government to promote collaboration across institutions. With such a wide variety of provision in the area, we are confident young people will be able to enjoy a wider choice in the future".
