The Mark Of Success For Housing Services

The Borough of Poole's Housing & Community Services has successfully retained the Charter Mark, the Government's national standard for excellence in public service.

To achieve the Charter Mark council services must demonstrate a number of criteria which includes setting standards and performing well, actively engaging with customers, partners and staff and being fair and accessible to everyone. The award is also given in recognition of using resources effectively and imaginatively and improving opportunities and quality of life in the local communities.

Housing and Community Services previously held the Charter Mark as a joint award with two other Council services, Housing Management Services, which are now an Arms Length Management Organisation (ALMO), and Revenue & Benefits.  Following recent organisational changes, the opportunity arose for Housing Services to apply for the Charter Mark in their own right.

Cllr Mike White, Cabinet Portfolio Holder for Housing said: "We are delighted at being awarded the Charter Mark for our Housing and Community Services which is recognition of the hard work and commitment of everyone involved.  The process of applying for the Chartermark is part of our learning process, helping us to examine our operations in detail  and we will continually strive to maintain the high standard that has been set."

Poole has seen a massive increase in the provision of new affordable homes, both rented and shared ownership, over the last three years which has seen almost 900 new homes secured between 2004 and 2008 and a total of public and private investment of £79m.
