6 Oct 00NEW HEADTEACHER AT THE MARTIN-KEMP WELCH SCHOOL
A new headteacher has been appointed at The Martin Kemp-Welch school in Poole. Kate Shaw will take over the headship of the school in January 2001. Ms Shaw is currently headteacher at Smithdon High school in Norfolk. Prior to this she was headteacher of Litcham High school, also in Norfolk.
Kate Shaw was appointed from a very strong field of applicants - details of the post were sent to around 100 people from all over the country and overseas. Seven successful headteachers were interviewed for the post when Kate Shaw was appointed.
Kate Shaw is delighted to take up her third headship and said, "I am really looking forward to working with staff, governors, parents and pupils to lead the school forward. Everyone has been extremely welcoming and there are several exciting initiatives planned. The new £1.5 million buildings programme will improve many areas of the school. Also, I will be appointing several new staff over this term who will help me to continue the good progress currently being made. The local education authority has been extremely supportive in providing good advice."
Government inspectors visiting the school in September praised the ways in which the school is progressing and the leadership of Alan Murphy, acting headteacher, who has implemented several new strategies over the past four months.
Alan Murphy said, "I’m delighted that Kate Shaw will be joining the school in January. My time here is proving to be very enjoyable and rewarding. The staff are extremely dedicated and I am confident that Kate will continue to move the school forward."
Jeff Hart, Chief Adviser in Poole, added, "The Martin Kemp-Welch school has much good news to celebrate. Alan Murphy is proving to be an excellent acting headteacher. The government inspectors are pleased with the school’s recent developments. Kate Shaw has been appointed headteacher from an extremely strong field. The borough has been working closely with the school and the building improvements will be wonderful. I would like to congratulate and thank all the staff for their hard work and commitment."
