25 Sep 00POOLE BUTCHERS LEAD THE WAY
Poole’s butchers are amongst the first in the country to gain a new accreditation in food hygiene standards.
From 1 November 2000, new legislation requires most butchers (including traditional shops and supermarkets) to be licensed if they sell raw meat as well as cooked meats and dairy foods. It has been introduced following the E. Coli food poisoning outbreak in Scotland in 1996.
The 15 butchers outlets in Poole that need a licence have all successfully completed their training which was organised by Central Government and aided and supported by Poole’s Consumer Protection Service.
Peter Pawlowski, Head of Consumer Protection Services for the Borough of Poole said ‘By issuing the licence we are recognising the commitment of these businesses to prepare and sell food of the highest standard.’
