PACKE FAMILY MAUSOLEUM OPEN TO PUBLIC - Friday 15th September 2000

The last public opening of the Packe Family Mausoleum, this year will be on the evening of 15th September 2000, as part of Dorset Architectural Heritage Week. It will be a rare chance to see the building by candlelight.

The Mausoleum was built in 1867 and is the last remaining evidence that the Packe family owned most of what is now Branksome Park in the mid 19th century.

This small, stone, chapel-like building was hidden behind trees and dense vegetation until a few years ago, when, in 1993, the Borough of Poole took over the building and restored it to its current condition.

The Packe Mausoleum stands at the top of the road to Branksome Dene Chine car park, just to the rear of 25, Pinewood Road. There is no need to book, simply turn up Friday evening at either 19.10, 19.50 or 20.30.
