STUDENTS GO SKY HIGH IN POOLE

Talented students will be raising their flags with the help of the Mayor Cllr Mrs Joyce Jones on Friday 8 September.

Over 30 pupils aged 11-14 from across Poole worked to create the colourful flags during a two week visual arts summer school held in August. With the help of government funding, the summer school was one of two for able pupils run during the first two weeks of the summer holidays.

Based at St Mary’s RC Combined School, students worked with professional artists Ali Pretty and Amanda Beeching using batik and textile collage to create six large flags on the theme of "Our Town Poole" .

Hannah Cordon of Broadstone Middle School, said: "I’m particularly proud of the flag I helped make in my group. I hope we can do something like this next year."
